Question: PMI is changing the PDU Categories on March 1, 2011. Will I lose my PDUs if I don't input them into the system before then?
Answer: No. You will not lose any PDUs if you forget to input them before the changeover.
The changeover happens on March 1, 2011. All PDUs that you input into the system before this date are going to be categorized under the current PDU categories. All PDUs that you input on or after March 1st are simply input under the new categories, no matter when they were actually earned.
For instance: If you earned 1 PDU from a PMI Registered Education Provider today, then your "PDU receipt" would say that this is a "Category 3" PDU. If you wait to input this PDU until after the changeover you would need to input it as a "Category A" PDU.
My recommendation: Simplify your life and input all earned PDUs before March 1, 2011. In that way you don't have to worry about having to convert a PDU from the old to the new category types. I'm sure that PMI will offer conversion assistance but it's still going to be a hassle to figure it out and do it right.
