Question: What are the major changes in regards to the "PDU system" that PMI introduced this year?

Image by http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3173/2357927343_f4a48f9b26_m.jpgAnswer: The two areas that stand out for me are the simplification of the PDU categories and the increase of the maximum of "easy PDUs" that you can earn.

Under the old "PDU System" (officially called CCRS, Continuing Certification Requirements System) you could select to earn your PDUs in one of 18 categories. There were categories, sub-categories and even sub-sub-categories. It was all rather confusing for most of us.

The new PDU structure has just 6 categories and is therefore massively simpler.

We will be reviewing the individual categories in future newsletters. The good news is that the updated rules are also massively fairer in that throughout the PDU categories 1 hour of activity qualifies for 1 PDU, and that some earning limits have been increased.

And this increase is the second area of improvement that I welcome very much. Under the old system, you could earn a maximum of 15 PDUs for listening to project management related podcasts. This number has now been raised to 30.

This means that The Project Management Podcast, which I have been producing since 2005, can now offer up to 30 PDUs at absolutely no cost to you. For more information on this please see http://www.pm-podcast.com/pdu.

Until next time,

Resolving Conflicts The Easy Way
Conflict Resolution and You!

"Sometimes conflict is necessary in the short term to achieve peace through the threat of aggression, and sometimes it is the threat of conflict which can establish peace," said Michael Ancram, the 13th Marquess of Lothian.

The wisdom of Ancram's statement is explored in Margarent Meloni's Conflict Resolution and You! (Disclosure: Compensated Affiliate). It stresses conflict as a natural occurrence at work, and how sometimes it is necessary to achieve healthy relationships amongst co-workers. Two people can't be expected to always agree on the same terms, and it's not always easy for project managers to turn conflict into a learning opportunity.

If you're one of those project managers who dreads conflict and has no idea how to get away from this kind of mindset, don't worry. Conflict resolution isn't rocket science. It only calls for the right attitude and a little bit of effort on your part.

Learn from Conflict Resolution and You! It is a path of peace that speaks of flexibility as the key to successful conflict resolution. With this program, you will be taken through the steps that will develop your versatility in facing different kinds of conflict.

And no, it's not just another academic discussion about conflict -- so it's anything but boring. This is an audio program that focuses on you. Yes, YOU! It will guide you in finding your most comfortable conflict resolution management style and teach you how and when to use it.

The program is specifically designed to focus on the everyday conflicts you experience at work and provide real-life examples and solutions. It's a realistic approach that will help you deal with these stressful situations and achieve resolution. For only $19.95, you can have this excellent tool!

Project Management Professionals (PMPs) will earn 2 PDUs for taking this course.
