How your Knowledge, Skills and Experience are Related to Earning PDUs

The Relationship of Earning PDUs to Your Knowledge, Skills and Experience as a Certified Project Manager
Knowledge is power when integrated with experience and skills and acted upon. However, knowledge, experience and skills must be tightly integrated to form a cohesive view of reality. Service-based project leaders must be able to forge these three together to establish a sound base for their personal competency pyramid.

Knowledge without experience leaves the leader without the confidence to execute project strategies that may seem radical to customers or sponsors. Knowledge and experience without demonstrable skills leave the leader stagnating, just talking about what should be done.  Thus, building knowledge, experience and skills should be viewed holistically; each complements the other and is mutually necessary.

How to Make Remote Work Productive
Does your project rely on virtual teams? If yes, then it means that working remotely is the norm for your project team members.

Are they doing their work effectively and efficiently? And even if you answered yes, there is always room for improvement, right? Good, because how to make remote work productive is our topic today.

Our interview guest is Bruce Harpham (https://ca.linkedin.com/in/bruceharpham and http://projectmanagementhacks.com) who has written about remote workers and how to increase all our effectiveness. He argues that working virtually is simply the reality on many projects and project teams these days.

And so in order to help us improve remote work he recommends the following four steps:
  • Evaluate your current tools
  • Review communication preferences and strengths
  • Analyze the project’s requirements
  • Adjust your communication practices
We’ll go through each of these in detail with lots of examples from his own experience.

Ask Cornelius
Question: This is my first time going thru PMI's "PMP certification renewal process."

I've submitted all my PDU claims to PMI. My Dashboard shows "0 PDUs remaining to renew", so I've obtained all the necessary PDUs to renew my certification.

I received an email, however, from PMI stating, "You are eligible to renew your PMP credential.." It wants me to complete the renewal process and submit payment by logging onto certification.pmi.org.

I'm slightly confused, because I know I've already paid for a PMI membership ($129) and a PMI-OC membership ($35), so now I need to submit another payment ($??) to renew the actual PMP certification? Is this correct?

I'm asking because this is my first time going thru this process.

Also... What is this Company Code business? What is this Voucher business?
$60 for the PMP certification renewal fee when it's all said & done?

So... $129 (PMI membership) + $35 (PMI-OC membership) + $60 (PMP certification renewal payment) = $224 ??? Is this typical?
