PMP 2026
Question Types —
What Actually Changes?
With the upcoming PMP 2026 update, many candidates are hearing conflicting information about “new question types” and wondering whether the exam is about to become dramatically different. This forum discussion separates speculation
from what PMI actually states in the Exam Content Outline.
The key clarification is
that most familiar formats remain: multiple choice, drag and drop, matching, and hotspot questions. The real additions are case-based scenarios, where a longer situation supports several related questions, and more questions that require interpreting visual information such as charts or graphics. Importantly, the ECO does not mention “constructed response,” meaning candidates will not be asked to type essays or free-text answers.
The bigger shift is not the format but the focus. The exam becomes more scenario-driven and places significantly more weight on Business Environment
topics such as strategy, AI, sustainability, and organizational alignment.
