PMP Material NOT in the PMBOK Guide
If you are studying for or plan to study for the PMP Exam you have likely heard you need to read A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide) at least three times. But, did you know that reading the PMBOK Guide is not enough to pass the PMP Exam? One popular misconception concerning the PMP Exam is that it is based solely on the PMBOK Guide. It is a great study tool but there is material on the PMP Exam that is not covered in the PMBOK Guide so you need to locate and select quality supplemental resources to cover this additional material. The PMP Exam covers a variety of questions to include those that are based on the PMBOK Guide, situational type questions and those that cover other project management concepts not necessarily included in the PMBOK Guide. Here we will look at some additional resources you can use to help ensure you are as prepared as possible for the PMP Exam.

Why Should Supplemental Resources Be Used?

Did you know that we launched the CAPM Exam Simulator?
Image
Prepare for and feel 100% confident to pass your Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) Exam by using The CAPM Exam Simulator.

The simulator gives you access to 750 realistic CAPM exam sample questions (5 exams) in an online environment. Question difficulty and style is very close to any question that you will encounter on your actual exam. A team of certified project managers (one of them was even a former volunteer who developed questions for PMI) not only developed all questions to be as close to the real things as possible, but they are also updated them to the latest CAPM Exam Content Outline as well as the most recent PMBOK Guide.

We also regularly review lessons learned from recent exam takers to identify any new exam trends in order to update our question pool, and it's the only simulator that offers Live Feedback!

Feel free to pass this information to anyone preparing for the CAPM exam!

Phil Schuyler is a PM PrepCast student. He is 33 years old and works as a Sr. Controls Engineer in the Augusta, Ga area at Starbucks Coffee Company (Manufacturing).

Here's a portion of what he shared about his PMP exam preparation:

"...Overall, the single best thing you can do to better your chances of passing the exam is to actually understand all 47 processes and do not attempt to simply memorize them. Understand and apply concepts that you are struggling with. Honestly, I have never read any of the PMBOK guide. I simply watched the PM PrepCast videos and applied the concepts and tools I learned in real world projects and passed the exam with flying colors..."
